Abstract:

This article analyzes the correlation between populism and immigration in the EU. After examining the literature about the current state of populist movements in the EU and the results of a comparative field work carried out in Germany, France, Italy, Greece and the Netherlands, the article tries to understand how debates influence Immigration, refugees, mobility and Islam in the rise of extreme right populism in Europe. To this end, the main components of populist discourse in Europe regarding immigrants and refugees are described and the socio-economic, political and cultural factors of populist extremism are analyzed, as well as resentment towards diversity, multiculturalism, Islam,
